About the Job

UniCourt is looking for a talented, experienced design team manager to help build and manage our UX design team.

As the VP of Product Design, you will report directly to our Head of Product and be responsible for the full cycle design process, including user research to uncover and document needs and goals, ideation, prototyping, testing, and creating design assets. In this process, you and your team will be in constant collaboration with our Product Management and Engineering teams, and ultimately be responsible for bringing to market new features and capabilities that our customers never dreamed were possible.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directly participate in design projects as a designer: Work closely with product managers to analyze user feedback sent through different channels. Help plan, design, and conduct user research and user testing. Work with product managers to evaluate the feasibility of a feature from a design perspective, and help scope and phase the development of each feature. Explore and experiment with various design options within constraints, collaborating with product managers, developers, and data analysis. Design the flow, interaction, and interface of new features while keeping in mind the overall architecture and experience of the existing system. Make UX improvements to existing features according to user feedback as well as design heuristics. Make sure designs are well documented for developers, answer questions developers may have as they build out the features, and tweak designs as needed during a cycle.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of clear and intentional design processes that achieve results and foster the creativity, focus, and productivity of the team.
  • Ensure designers each have clear roles, objectives and priorities, consistent with business priorities and design/development processes.
  • Work closely with product managers, development leads, and the Head of Product to set direction and priorities for the team.
  • Coordinating with other team leads, prioritize and track design progress, make sure deliverables are done on time.
  • Create a team environment where team members feel safe to take risks and contribute.
  • Help creating a design-driven culture across the company, and be an advocate and educator for good design practice within the organization.
  • Drive the vision of design direction, strategy, and practice in the organization.
  • Mentor the design team members to help them grow and perform at their best.
  • Perform Usability Instrumentation by looking at server logs and user click events in tools like GA or others to help answer questions about how the users are using a feature.
  • Understand the KPIs for the success of a feature from the Product Manager and ensure that the necessary events are being tracked in the UI by working closely with the development team.
  • Configure the tools that capture the user events to provide necessary reports and work with Data Analysts to get the necessary conclusions on feature success.
  • Use the results from Usability Instrumentation to improve User Experience.
  • Adopt necessary tools for UI Walkover to increase user adoption.

Qualifications

  • Any Bachelor / Master’s Degree with relevant experience.

Required Skills

  • Empathize with people. Always try to understand what people try to achieve, and how you can help them get there. extensive interaction with real users of your products.
  • 8 or more years experience as a UX Designer, including at least 3 years managing other designers.
  • 2+ years working on a mix of B2B and B2C products.
  • Spectacular people management acumen and the ability to help creative team members perform their best.
  • Sophisticated understanding of design processes, best practices and team structures, and the ability to articulate them clearly and communicate them across the company.
  • Experienced in empathetic, evidence- and data-driven design, with demonstrated ability to tackle the complexity of an information-dense digital product.
  • Expert in information architecture, user flow, and micro-interactions, and have a solid understanding of web design principles and enough knowledge of coding to be able to contribute to technical discussions when required.
  • Master collaborator welcoming of critique and feedback.
  • Constant learner always seeking to learn new skills and technologies.
  • Extensive experience building and testing interactive prototypes.
  • Comfortable building flowcharts, mockups, and polished designs with Figma or your tool of choice.
